It’s not everyday you have your very own pirate to escort you around the Halifax pier amongst the numerous gorgeous ships docked there for the Tall Ships Festival. At just $5 we each got a pass to board and tour all the tall ships. With free tattoos (spray on and fake of course), costumed character doing demonstrations, and with fireworks on the harbour every night, it was quite the adventure! Hannah guided us through the nooks and crannies novice-Halifax-visitors, like ourselves, often overlook. Dressed like a real pirate for her class project, she easily split the crowds of people like Moses and the Red Sea as we walked from one ship to another.
It it said that pictures say a thousand words, and in my case, perhaps a few more. So without further ado, I’ll let the pictures tell the story:
- Fireworks!!! Every night! I was all smiles.
- Full sails and magnificent!
- Entrance from the farmer’s market. They had a movie playing here every night.
- Look Ma…my first tattoos. Don’t worry, I washed them off. π
- Our pirate met up with fellow pirates and was invited to join their crew!
- Kaboom! Firing a canon…well, pretending to. They actually do work. We had a demonstration as the ships sailed out of the habour.
- Me and the pirate just hanging out on some beautiful ships.
- Not the greatest thing for an American to pose with, but hey, I’m married to a Canadian.
- There were quite a few American tall ships there and whenever I saw the gigantic flag dancing in the wind, my heart swelled with pride and love for my dear country!
- There was a long line for this one!
- She was such a beauty!
- nom nom nom…fresh lobster rolls and sweet strawberry lemonade to wash it down.
- Passed the human-sized lobster trap we sat in on a live-cooking show while chomping down on lunch.
- The fierce pirate and lobster guy.
